1937 – 2026 Stella Mary McIntyre, 88, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Vernon, B.C. Born in London, England in 1937, she was the cherished only child of Clifford and Gabrielle Heyes.
In her early 20s, Stella’s adventurous spirit brought her to Canada with friends. While in Vancouver, she met Bill McIntyre, a Vernon-born doctor-in-training. They married in 1962, settled in Quesnel, and had three children. Following Bill’s untimely passing in 1978, Stella showed her true character and strength, raising their children while successfully operating her own travel agency.
Stella truly never met a person she didn’t like. She was known for her love of a good chat and her unwavering kindness and respect toward everyone she met. She built a vibrant life and many deep friendships in Quesnel over five decades before moving to Vernon in 2022 for health and family reasons. Even in her final years, her social nature shone through as she quickly made dear new friends at her care homes.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (Louise) of Langley and Peter (Jaynee) of Coldstream, and her daughter, Adele, of Quesnel. Stella was a devoted grandmother to Scott, Jon and Alicia, and a proud great-grandmother to Raielle, Teddy, and Claire.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heritage Square and Orchard Valley care homes, and to Dr. Richard Harper for their compassionate care. At Stella’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stella’s memory may be made to the BC SPCA, a cause close to her heart.
