The highway connecting the Interior to Northern B.C. was closed for several hours Thursday morning as a result of a police investigation.

At around 3:15 a.m. March 12, police from Clearwater responded to a vehicle stuck in a ditch on Highway 5 near Blue River.

Police determined that one of the occupants of the vehicle was wanted for murder and potentially armed, and the highway was closed in both directions out of an abundance of caution.

The Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Service were called in due to the high-risk nature of the incident.

All occupants of the vehicle were safely arrested by 11 a.m. Wednesday.

RCMP confirmed one person was wanted for murder, and another was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant for parole violations.

“Thank you to the public for their patience and cooperation during this incident,” said RCMP spokesperson Corporal Brett Urano.

“We recognize the impact that road closures have on the community, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work to keep the public, and our officers, safe.”
