Five rescued from Gillard Forest Service Road by COSAR

Mar 6, 2026 | 11:13 AM

Five people were rescued late Thursday from Gillard Forest Service Road by Central Okanagan Search and Rescue.

The group became stranded well above the Kettle Valley Rail trail, and volunteers used snowmobiles and sport utility vehicles to reach them. All five were safely returned home by early Friday morning.

This marked the third rescue call for the team this week and the 21st since the start of the year.

COSAR reminded hikers and outdoor enthusiasts that conditions at higher elevations can be icy and cold even when the valley is mild, and they urged everyone to carry safety equipment when heading out.
