Don’t feed the animals: Regional Parks
Feb 27, 2026 | 5:00 PM
Regional Parks is reminding the public that open spaces are shared with wildlife and we should not be feeding animals.
Trails run through feeding areas and ponds support nesting and spawning, and the department has seen an increase in peanuts, candy and other food items being left in park areas.
That’s bad for wildlife health and can also change natural behaviour, increasing the risk of unsafe encounters.
In a media release the department said, in part, food left behind can attract unintended species, disrupt sensitive ecosystems and create allergy concerns for other park users.
