West Kelowna rescue brings two stranded riders to safety

Feb 26, 2026 | 10:31 AM

Emergency crews rescued two people stranded in separate UTVs on Bear Main Forest Service Road Thursday afternoon.

A team of 10 members from COSAR responded with snowmobiles and a tracked UTV, carrying first aid equipment to treat possible hypothermia. Both individuals were safely brought back, with all team members and riders home by supper time.

The rescue comes amid winter conditions that have made backcountry travel especially hazardous this week.

COSAR officials said the incident highlights the importance of preparedness and teamwork when travelling in backcountry areas during winter conditions.
