Heavy snow forecast for Coquihalla and Rogers Pass this week
Drivers along the Coquihalla Highway should prepare for significant snowfall beginning tonight and continuing through Friday.
Environment Canada forecasts between 40 and 60 centimetres of snow along the route from Hope to Merritt, with steady accumulation expected over the coming days.
The national weather agency says a strong frontal system will bring gusty southwesterly winds and unstable conditions to the region. Travel could become hazardous as snow builds, reducing visibility and making roads slippery.
Meanwhile, the Rogers Pass is also in for winter weather. Forecasters expect 20 to 25 centimetres of snow starting tonight, with the heaviest snowfall likely on Thursday. Additional snow is possible Thursday night and into Friday, and Environment Canada will provide updates as the storm progresses.
