Kelowna RCMP warn of increase in counterfeit cash

Feb 25, 2026 | 10:21 AM

Kelowna RCMP are warning the public after seeing a rise in counterfeit money within the city.

Most reports come from local businesses, though a few incidents have involved personal transactions on online marketplaces. The fake bills are primarily $100 notes, but police say $50 and $20 bills have also been circulated. Investigators are urging both sellers and buyers to stay vigilant when handling cash.

RCMP recommend educating employees on how to identify counterfeit money and closely monitoring all cash transactions. Anyone who comes across suspect bills is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP.

Police stress that reporting counterfeit money promptly can help prevent further circulation and protect both businesses and residents.
