A Water Quality Advisory and a Boil Water Notice have been issued in Vernon following two water main breaks.

Greater Vernon Water said the Boil Water Notice was issued for properties from 8550 to 8620 Harbour Heights Road Wednesday, Feb. 11, following a water main break and a loss of water pressure. This will be in place until sample testing shows the water is safe to consume.

The Water Quality Advisory was issued for 7344 Longacre Drive and for 7348 to 7453 Longacre Drive after a break that was being repaired Wednesday afternoon.

In both cases, Greater Vernon Water (GVW) said people in the affected areas should bring their tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; using to make or prepare for or drink, including ice and baby formula; and brushing their teeth.

GVW also said people may experience discoloured water or air in their pipes. In these instances people should run their tap on cold until the water turns clear, adding it is best to do this using an outdoor tap.
