Dan was the youngest son of Onufry and Anna Danyluk and the last to be born in Poznanka Gnila Poland. Dan entered the world on November 8, 1924. In 1929 he and his family left Poland and immigrated to Canada where they settled in Souris, Manitoba. There, Dan finished his schooling and went on to the University of Manitoba where he completed a civil engineering degree in 1946. Dan made a 44-year career with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in the Engineering Department. His job took him all over the country from Brandon, Manitoba to Kenora, Ontario and then on to British Columbia where he worked in Penticton, Nelson and Revelstoke. Following Revelstoke, he moved on to Montreal Quebec and finished his career in Winnipeg Manitoba where he retired in 1984 as Regional Chief Engineer.
Although Dan grew up in Manitoba, British Columbia held a very special place in his heart. It is there he met his wife, Joan, in the spring of 1953 while he was designing and building a new diesel shop for the CPR. Dan was boarding with the Romano Family and met Joan across the dinner table while she was visiting her friend, Connie. Seven short years later Dan and Joan were married, on June 21, 1960. Together they had four children: John (Angela), Tom, Greg (Carla) and Michelle. Following his retirement, Dan and Joan returned to British Columbia in 1984 where they settled in Vernon. Dan and Joan both became actively involved at St. James Roman Catholic Church and the church became the centre of their life in their later years. Dan was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and loved working behind the scenes on many of their projects.
In retirement Dan was known for his wine making, gardening and curling. When he was not in Vernon, he could be found at Mara Lake visiting with family and lifelong friends
Dan leaves to mourn many family members and friends including of course his grandchildren Tasha, Zak, Mara, Chantal and Alexa.
