Tanya’s heart belonged to all creatures great and small.
Born on May 8, 1977, in Ottawa, Ontario, Tanya spent her life exploring new places, living in 15 different towns and cities, with her heart remaining in her cherished Jasper, AB. She passed away on June 16, 2025, in Vernon, BC.
Tanya is survived by her father David Cachelin of Lander Wyoming and brothers Justin (Amber) Cachelin and Calder Cachelin of Kamloops, BC, half-sister Christina Nelson of Lander, Wyoming and nephew Sheyenne (Kayla) Deavor of Lander, Wyoming. She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and her best friend Tonia P, who was more like a sister to her. She will also be missed by her beloved cats, dog, and a very special little red squirrel.
Predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Alan and Shirley Downes, and her paternal grandparents, Bernetta Goodrich and Urban Cachelin, Tanya’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Tanya was an empath. Her compassion for all living creatures led her to devote years to rescuing and fostering dogs through various organizations, and she cherished many rescued pets in her life. With a deep connection to trees and nature, Tanya felt most alive outdoors, where she enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and taking long-distance walks – sometimes even between towns.
Music and dance were also integral to her life. Ballet, a large part of her early life for 16 years. Concerts of all kinds were her thing, and the 80s being her most favorite era. She cherished her friends and the memories they shared. Known for her quirky sense of humor, her sweet tooth and no fear of indulging, she was stubbornly true to herself and lived life on her terms.
In accordance with Tanya’s wishes, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Auxiliary Thrift Store in Vernon, BC.
