Celebration planned to mark final phase of Vernon Creek Naturalization project
Phase 2 of the Polson Park Vernon Creek Naturalization project is underway, and a celebration will be held to mark the work.
The second phase is also the final part of the project, which involves restoring the creek to a more natural state by replacing existing concrete banks with a meandering channel to mitigate flood risks. It also adds natural features to enhance fish habitat and spawning areas, instals new crossings, and sees the planting of riparian species.
To celebrate the project milestone, the City of Vernon will host an event at Polson Park Friday, June 20.
The event will run from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and feature speeches, a stage performance from Evan the Juggler; live music from Duane Marchand, LooPS, and October Poppy; kid-friendly activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, and a caricature artist; and swag giveaways and free food samples from local food trucks.
