Work ongoing to secure funding for signage along the Rail Trail

The organization that oversees projects on the rail trail continue to seek money to install new kiosks.

A report from the Friends of the Okanagan Rail Trail (FORT) stated its Our Fund Development Committee was looking at securing funding for two Tier 3 Kiosks along the trail in the North Okanagan.

The kiosks would be installed at the Kekuli Bay Provincial Park and the Westkal, near Kickwillie Loop Road in Coldstream, access points. The kiosks will provide information to orient users and direct them to local amenities such as public parking, washrooms, community centres, public transportation, or accessible pedestrian routes.

The FORT said it was looking to secure grants and donations through its Find Your Way Campaign, adding it had already secured some funding from the Greater Vernon Parks and Recreation Department’s Trails and Natural Spaces stream, as well as from the Outdoor Recreation Council of B.C.

The organization said the signage project was scheduled for 2025, though did not provide specific dates.

Additionally, FORT stated trail paving and road upgrades in Lake Country had been completed.

The projects involved freshly paving the section between Woodsdale Road and the Quail Trail, and repaving the Lodge Road area, to make the trail smoother and more accessible.

Improvements had also been made to the Lodge Road area between Sherman and Woodsdale Roads that include better drainage, road renewal, new curbs, a sidewalk on one side, upgraded transit stops, and safer intersections.

The FORT stated these changes would support active transportation and extend the trail’s seasonal use.
