Kelowna council to review new plan for displaced tenants
The City of Kelowna is set to introduce new tenant protection measures aimed at supporting renters displaced by redevelopment.
The latest plan was prompted by a redevelopment application for a Mills Road property submitted in February 2024, which reignited calls for stronger protections for tenants in the fast-growing city.
If approved, displaced tenants would receive three months’ worth of rent and $1,000 dollars to help cover moving costs. Landlords would also be required to provide a detailed relocation plan and give tenants at least four months’ written notice before ending a tenancy.
Council will review the proposed Tenant Protection Plan at its next meeting, scheduled for Monday, April 14, 2025.
