Mother Nature forces the cancellation of some Winter Carnival events

The Countdown is on – four more sleeps! We are so excited to go Back to the 80’s with our community  for Vernon Winter Carnival 2025, as we celebrate our 65th year! Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not get the memo that it’s winter until just this past weekend.

With the warmer than normal temperatures, and the lack of snow that has built up the snow base up at SilverStar Mountain Resort, and in our surrounding areas, we’ve had to make some adjustments to a
few of our events this year.

Due to the lack of usable snow that would be needed for SilverStar Mountain Resort to build our big snow blocks for our snow sculptors, we have shipped this event again this year to welcome some Ice Carving instead. We are so excited to have our friend and extremely talented ice carver, Tyler Welfing,
of CarvWel Creations joining us up at SilverStar to carve five ice blocks in the allowed 48 hours that our Snow Sculptors would normally receive to complete their creations. Tyler will be joined by Shea Larkin to
complete the five sculptures together. There will still be people’s choice voting up at SilverStar and we will still be having a ceremony where we announce the People’s favourite carving. Tyler is incredibly talented and we look forward to seeing what he comes up with to carve this year!

A few other events that Vernon Winter Carnival or our incredible Event Partners have had to cancel due a combination of Mother Nature not cooperating, or low ticket sales are:
– Great Scott! Escaping the 80’s at the Okanagan Science Centre on Saturday, February 8, 2025
– Moonwalk Mania Family Dance at the Schubert Centre on Monday, February 10, 2025
– Carnival Kickball at N’kwala Park on Saturday, February 15, 2025
– Snogolf at N’kwala Park on Saturday, February 15, 2025

We greatly appreciate the support of all of our Event Partners, the volunteers that help make these events possible, and the support our community who eagerly await tickets to Vernon Winter Carnival year over year. We understand that these cancellations and changes may be disappointing to some. We hope that those who have been affected will join us at other events those days and continue to help us celebrate these wonderful events that bring our community together as we celebrate our 65th year of Vernon Winter Carnival.
