The City of Vernon is supporting three sustainability projects in the community.

Through the 2024 Sustainable Grant program, the city had $25,500 available in grants of up to $2,000 per recipient to support projects in the community.

The city allocated $20,161 of those funds for project applicants in the spring intake, and have agreed to provide the remainder to support three applicants in the fall intake period.

The funding will support the following organizations and their projects

  • $1,800 to the Okanagan Landing and District Community Association for the Paddlewheel Park Waterfront Sustainability Event
  • $1,800 to NexusBC Community Resource Centre’s for the Growing Green: Sustainable Gardens Revitalization project
  • $1,739 for Bowen O’Brien to support the Green Futures: Vernon’s Path to Sustainability video project

Vernon City Council accepted the report outlining the grant funding at the regular meeting Monday, Jan. 27, and voted in favour of providing the funding to support the three projects.

There were 12 applicants that submitted requests for funding in the 2024 sustainability grant fall intake period.
