RCMP investigating suspicious death in downtown Vernon

A death in Vernon’s downtown core is under investigation and is being considered suspicious.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said officers responded to a report of a deceased person in the creek near the wooded area between 31st Ave. and Freshco at around 7 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9.

The deceased man was identified as Cory Fregin, 55, of Vernon.

“The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation and are reaching out to the public for information about this death,” said Cpl. Tania Finn who is the media relations officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

“Cory was found wearing a red and black plaid jacket and we are requesting anyone who saw this man in this area on December 8th or December 9th to reach out to police.”

Anyone with information about Fregin’s death, his movements in the days leading up to Dec. 9, or anyone who witnessed suspicious activity near the creek is asked to call the Vernon RCMP deatchment at 250-545-7171.
