A crash on the Trans Canada Highway Wednesday morning claimed the life of one person.

Salmon Arm RCMP say local officers, accompanied by members of the B.C. Highway Patrol, attended a head-on crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer on Highway 1 near the intersection of Highlands Drive in Blind Bay around 10 a.m. Nov. 20.

Police said evidence collected during the initial investigation determined the passenger vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the divided highway when it crashed with the on-coming semi-trailer.

“Sadly, the driver, and only occupant, a 40-year-old man from Sorrento, B.C., succumbed to injuries he’d sustained and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Cpl. James Grandy, B.C. RCMP spokesperson, said.

The driver and passenger of the truck also suffered minor injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours Wednesday as police investigated the collision.

The case remained open and anyone with details about the fatal collision was asked to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.
