Uber expanding service across B.C. in 2025

British Columbians in need of rides will have more options in the near future.

Uber has announced it will be expanding it’s services to communities throughout B.C. starting in early 2025.

“British Columbians and visitors alike are constantly opening the app to try and find a ride just like they can in most cities across the country,” Michael van Hemmen, General Manager of Mobility for Uber Canada, said.

“It’s time that residents across the province have the same access to rideshare as they do in Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna to help get them where they need to go, when they need to. And for those with a safe driving record, a flexible opportunity to earn money on their own time. While the app will be available across the entire province, rides will only be available where drivers actively sign up and go online to do trips. We’re looking for drivers from Nanaimo to Fort St. John and everywhere in between.”

The company said it would be expanding its reach to communities throughout the province, though did not specifically said if it would be offering rides in Vernon, Coldstream or other North Okanagan communities.

Uber Canada received approval from B.C.’s Passenger Transportation Board for a license transfer from another rideshare company to operate in the province in May of 2023, and Uber rolled out operations in Kelowna and Victoria that following June.

Uber Canada said it would provide more information about the B.C. service expansion at a later date.
