Kelowna RCMP crack down on speeders, especially around school zones

Police in Kelowna launched an operation to target school zone speeders earlier this month, yielding striking results.

RCMP say the Kelowna Municipal Traffic Section 45 school zone violation tickets were issued between Nov. 4 and 7.

Among those issued tickets was a driver who was caught going 69 kilometres per hour in a 30 zone along Hollywood Road South.

The RCMP were not only focused on school zones, however, as four other vehicles were impounded for excessive speeding dureing that period.

Among those was a vehicle travelling at 108 km/h in a 60 zone along Glenmore Road, as well as a car going 105 in the 60 km/h portion of Highway 33.

“Speeding in an active school zone is considered high risk driving behaviour and will not be tolerated,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier, said.

“These enforcement initiatives will continue until the message is clear, slow down and help us keep our roads safe.”
