Police investigating threat at a Vernon elementary school

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are investigating a threat that resulted in an elementary letting out students early as a safety precaution.

Officers responded to a report of an unspecified threat directed at an elementary school around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.

School District 22 ended the school day early and moved the students to an alternate location for pick up as police investigated the threat.

“Situations involving a threat to the safety of our schools will be treated with the highest of priority,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances and legitimacy of the threat and are working closely in partnership with SD22 to ensure the safety of the school.”

Police did not state which school was the target of the threat, and did not release any details as the investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday afternoon.
