The man accused of second degree murder in Lumby has opted for a trial by judge and jury.

The B.C. Prosecution Service confirmed Vitali Stefanski appeared in Vernon court Wednesday, Oct. 31, to formally enter an election for a trial before a Supreme Court judge and jury. His trial will also involve a preliminary inquiry.

Stefanski will be back in court on Nov. 6, where he will meet with a judicial case manager to schedule a pretrial conference.

A trial date had not been set as of time of publication.

Stefanski is facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of his ex-wife, Tatjana Stefanski.

Tatjana was reported missing from her home in Lumby in April, 2024, and the following day her body was discovered in a rural area near the community.

Vitali was located and arrested that same day in a nearby area, and was later charged in the death.
