Federal tourism funds going to support Silver Star, other regional outdoor amenities

The Canadian government is supporting outdoor tourism operations in the Okanagan and Thompson regions.

Through the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan), a total of $725,000 will go towards outdoor and tourism amenities in the region.

The investment includes $250,000 for the Silver Star Freestyle Club so it can build a state-of-the-art freestyle ski and snowboard training park at Vernon’s SilverStar Mountain Resort.

The new park will include a landing airbag and a variety of terrain features to accomodate skiers and snowboards of all levels.

The investment will also support a few other regional initiatives.

Wine Growers B.C. will receive $162,500 to create a user-friendly trip planning resource on it’s website.

Hunters Range Snowmobile Association will get $65,000 to be used to upgrade its grooming equipment and trail infrastructure in Enderby.

The remaining $250,000 will be used to restore the historic Adra Tunnel on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail in Naramata.

“The Thompson Okanagan is home to world-class tourism attractions with ambitious plans to welcome visitors from all corners of British Columbia, Canada and beyond,” Harjit Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and the Minister responsible for PacifiCan, said.

“PacifiCan is here to support these organizations as they create memorable experiences and seize growth opportunities. These projects showcase our region’s natural beauty and rich history while strengthening the local economy and creating good jobs here in our communities.”
