Police investigating stabbing outside Vernon’s Schell Motel

Vernon RCMP are investigating a stabbing in the downtown core.

Mounties said the incident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, outside of the Schell Motel on 35th Street.

Police were called to the scene initally on a report of a fight in progress in a parking loss, and once on the scene officers were told by a witness that a man had been stabbed.

The victim had been taken to hospital prior to police arriving on the scene, and was reportedly in stable condition.

The RCMP said the investigation led police to two separate units in the building, both of which were secured until search warrants could be obtained and executed.

“We’re still in the very early stages of the investigation and are working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“There will be a continued police presence at the location and in the area while officers continue their investigation.”

The investigation into the incident remained open and any witnesses or anyone with information on related to the case was asked to call the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file #2024-17711.

Police were set up outside a motel in downtown Vernon investigating an undisclosed incident Friday morning.

RCMP had cordoned off a scene outside the Schell Motel, near the intersection of 30th Ave. and 35th St. at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 18.

Police tape was set up and two RCMP vehicles and two officers were on scene.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP did not disclose any details on the incident under investigation and did not immediately responded to Vernon Matters’s request for comment.
