Nearly a third of local registered voters cast early ballots in the provincial election

Turnouts for the local ridings in the 2024 Provincial General Election were quite high, with nearly a third of all eligible ballots cast in advance.

ElectionsBC said there were 3,287 early votes cast in the Vernon-Lumby riding on the last day of advance voting Wednesday, Oct. 16, while another 3,684 were cast in the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding. Both those figures were the highest single day turnouts for advance voting in the ridings.

The votes brought the turnout total for Vernon-Lumby up to 14,597, with another 14,470 total votes cast in the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding.

Those totals both represented 32 per cent of the eligible voters that had registered by October 7.

The votes Wednesday were part of 222,907 cast throughout B.C., which was also a signle-day record turnout.

In total 1,001,331 advance votes were cast across the province, which represented 28 per cent of the eligible registered voters in B.C.

Final voting day is Saturday, Oct. 19.

Ballots will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations Saturday:
