A recent use of a bait bike in Kelowna ended with an arrest in just a few minutes.

Kelowna RCMP deployed a bait bike in the downtown core Thursday, Oct. 10, and within four minutes a person stole it.

The suspect was initially arrested but later released pending a court appearance in January.

The alleged thief faces one count of theft under $5,000.

“We are still seeing a decrease in bike thefts overall in the Kelowna/Central Okanagan area, however that does not mean we will slacken our pursuit of targeting bike thieves,” Sgt. Scott Powrie of the Kelowna RCMP Community Safety Unit, said.

“This is a community effort; keep locking your bikes and documenting your serial numbers please.”
