Fire that destroyed the historic Red Bridge in Kamloops believed to be arson
The RCMP is seeking information on the fire that destroyed the historic Red Bridge in Kamloops.
Mounties said it’s believed the fire that caused the 90 year old bridge to go up in flames was arson.
The fire was reported at 3:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept 19, and the flames fully engulfed the structure that had been used to cross the South Thompson River for nearly a century before it collapsed into the water.
“The investigation is still in its very early stages, but we do believe the Red Bridge was intentionally set on fire and we are treating it as arson, based on the information and evidence reviewed so far,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley of the Kamloops RCMP in a release on Friday.
