The 10-day bicycle trip to support children in need came to an end Sunday, with a large sum raised by the riders to support kids in need.

A team of 26 riders made up of law enforcement officials and support staff, including Vernon North Okanagan’s Nick Reimann, concluded their trip through the Southern Interior when they rolled into Kelowna Sept. 15.

“It’s not an easy feat to cycle these long distances day after day with the sun beating down on us” Cops for Kids President retired Superintendent, Brent Mundle, stated.

“But, our riders have a great support system travelling with them to kept them hydrated and many service groups stepped up to help keep them fed.”

The ride that began in Kelowna and took the team south through Osoyoos, east to Cranbrook, north to Golden, then back to Kelowna via Salmon Arm and Kamloops was in support of Cops for Kids, a charitable foundation committed to assisting children that have suffered a medical, physical or traumatic crisis.

The riders did stop in various communities during the trip, including at the detachment in Vernon Saturday, Sept 14.

“It’s that great community support and meeting with children we have helped along the way that keeps us coming back” Corporal Tania Finn, a member of both Cops for Kids and the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated.

“We have many return riders that are very passionate about this cause and, when we ride into town to cheers and smiles, it makes it all worthwhile.”

The riders took pledges to support the charity as part of this 10-day ride. As of Monday, Sept. 16, Reimann raised $6,640.

All told, the combined efforts of the riders saw over $200,000 raised, with Lake Country’s Gail Harrison having the highest fundraising contribution with $58,650.

The organization will accept donations in the name of the riders until the end of December.
