Walter Weiss, a beloved resident of Vernon, British Columbia, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Sunday August 11, 2024.
Walter was born in Nickelsdorf, Austria. Walter’s life journey took him from Austria to Canada where he built a rich life.
He began his working life in Austria before immigrating to Canada in the 1950s, where he worked in various jobs, including a logging camp, copper mine, and for General Motors. Walter retired in the 1990s and spent his later years enjoying life in Vernon.
Walter was predeceased by his wife, Irma, and two stepsons, Peter and Frank Moehling. He is survived by his stepson Harold Weiss, as well as 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was known for his humour, routine, and dedication to quality. He remained an active member of his church and community, volunteering and enjoying daily coffee gatherings with friends. Walter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A special thank you on behalf of family to the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Pastor James, and family and friends who visited and supported Walter in his final days. Rest in peace, dear Walter.
At Walter’s wishes, there was a private family gathering for the internment on Friday August 16, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
There will be a Church service for Walter at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6525 Okanagan Landing Road, Vernon, BC, on September 5, 2024 at 1:30 pm.
