A teenager who was struck by a car in downtown Vernon did not survive her injuries.

The Teach and Learn Facebook page stated the owners’ daughter, 15-year-old Lynza passed away in hospital on Aug. 16.

Lynza was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in downtown Vernon on July 20. She was taken to hospital for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries, and the Teach and Learn Facebook page said she was then transported to the B.C. Children’s Hospital where she was in critical condition and being cared for in the Intensive Care Unit.

She reportedly was taken off life-support while at the hospital but put back on again due to her having trouble breathing.

“We loved the 15 years we had with Lynza. She has gone to heaven and we will miss her so much,” the post read. “We are thankful for the prayers of many and the thoughts and kindness of so many. There will be a funeral which everyone is welcome to. Please watch for details to come.”

An online fundraiser was set up on July 23 to support Lynza’s family as she remained in hospital. As of time of 10 a.m. August 19, over $46,000 was donated through the site.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP told Vernon Matters that the investigation into the collision remained under investigation as of August 19.
