People are urged to not swim in Wood Lake at the Reiswig Regional Park.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan issued a Swimming Advisory for the area after testing from Interior Health found higher than acceptable E.coli levels in water samples from the beach at the south end of the lake.

Swim advisory notices have been posted at the park and the public is asked to not swim or engage in water-related activities there until testing shows the water is clear once again.

People may develop gastrointestinal illness if they ingest the water, with the RDCO adding E.coli can cause skin rashes, and/or eye, ear and throat symptoms to swimmers.

People with weakened immune system, children, and the elderly are more susceptible to being affected.

With the advisory in place, residents and visitors are instead encouraged to explore other regional parks with lake access.
