Johanna “Annie” Everarda Van der Meer, having recently celebrated her 90th birthday, passed away June 30, 2024 at Heron Grove in Vernon. Born in the Netherlands, she immigrated to Canada in 1958, living first in Vancouver, then Coquitlam, moving to Vernon for the past 30+ years.
She is survived by her daughters Betty (Ray), their children, Leanne(Nathan), Scott(Jackie), Darryl(Jessica) and Cory(Jane); Louise (Ron), their children Megan(Daniel), Bryan, Kailee(Graham), and Andrea(Steve); son, Patrick(Anita), their children, Christopher(Julie), Steven(Kay), and Bruce(Mikayla); and daughter Patty (Willy), children, Korralin and Reid, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. Johanna is further survived by 5 siblings living in the Netherlands, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Herman in 1999, as well as 2 brothers and a sister.
Mom lived with diabetes for close to 70 years as well as dementia which led to her living her last 5 years at Heron Grove where she received excellent care.
In spite of this hers was a life well lived. She and Herman travelled extensively as well as wintering in Yuma, Arizona. She was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of the Valley and St James Catholic church and sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed many evening’s playing cards with her Dutch community as well as dancing the night away at parties.
She will be dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 10102 Middleton Drive, Coldstream, BC.
