Police investigating serious collision with pedestrian in Vernon

A youth suffered serious injuries after reportedly being struck at a downtown Vernon intersection Saturday.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said a youth had been struck at the intersection of 32nd Street/Highway 97 and 30th Avenue by a pickup truck making a turn onto the highway at approximately 12:10 p.m., July 20.

B.C. Emergency Health Services transported the youth to hospital for treatment of serious, life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup remained on the scene and was cooperating with police.

The intersection was closed to traffic for several hours Saturday as police conducted their investigation, with assistance from the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service.

Police ask any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage of the collision to contact the Vernon detachment at 250-545-7171 and quote file #2024-12112.
