‘Possible degradation’ of water quality leads to advisories in Greater Vernon

Jul 8, 2024 | 12:30 PM

Water quality advisories (WQA) remain in effect for three areas serviced by Greater Vernon Water.

The advisories were issued Friday, July 5 for Mission Hill, Commonage Road and West Kal.

“Ongoing bacterial testing has shown a possible degradation in water quality for the customers located within the area of the attached map (see below). The Regional District North Okanagan is currently investigating the source of the degradation and increased sampling in the area will be done,” a news release from the RDNO stated.

Until the WQAs are rescinded, the RDNO said very young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems should exercise caution and all customers may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using it for the following purposes:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables to be eaten raw
  • Making beverages or ice
