A marathon runner from Kelowna is heading to France to compete on the world stage.

Malindi Elmore of Kelowna was named to Canada’s Athletics team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Team Canada’s website stated Elmore made her Olympics debut in 2004 when she ran in the women’s 1,500 metre race. She placed 37th in that competition.

After missing the cut for the 1,500m race the following two Olympics, Elmore transitioned to marathon running.

In 2020, Elmore made her Olympics Marathon debut, finishing 9th overall in the women’s competition in Tokyo.

At the Berlin Marathon in September of 2023, Elmore ran the race in a time of 2:23:30, just 18 seconds off the national title, and more than three minutes under the Olympic entry standard, guaranteeing her qualification for Paris 2024.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held Friday, July 26, through Sunday, August 11. The women’s marathon event will go on the final day of the games.
