Water safety encouraged following three recent rescues by VSAR

Vernon Search and Rescue is reminding people to be water safe.

VSAR issued the reminder after being involved with three water-related rescues over the past week, only one of which saw the individual in need of support prepared with safety equipment.

Heading into the hot, summer weather, the organization reminds people that:

Local rivers are flowing fast and have hidden hazards
Lake water is still cold and hypothermia is still possible on hot days and muscle mobility can be lost quickly in cold water
Personal flotation devices and life jackets save lives
Alcohol and water are a dangerous combination.
