Manslaughter charges laid in Sicamous death

A man was been arrested and charged in the death of a woman in Sicamous.

Sicamous RCMP responded to a request for assistance from the B.C. Ambulance Service for a report of an unresponsive female found in the driveway of a mobile home unit at 1707 Hillier Road at 4:48 a.m. Wednesday, June 19.

Paramedics were providing medical assistance to the woman when police arrived but, despite their efforts, the woman, identified as 66 year old Jo Ann Jackson, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit took over the investigation of the case and, on Thursday, June 20, a man was arrested and charged with manslaughter in Jackson’s death.

The man, who was not named, was released from police custody with a series of protective conditions, including an order to not return to the property on Hillier Rd.

Police said Jackson’s death is believed to be an isolated incident, but there is still reason to believe there could be a potential risk to public safety, so police said they would be implementing additional measures to mitigate those safety concerns.

Investigators ask that any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam or security video footage from the area between Hillier Road and Highway 1 in Sicamous from 1 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday contact the Major Crime Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.
