June 27, 1932 – May 26, 2024
Sharon Lee Vander Haeghe passed into the arms of her loving Saviour, Jesus Christ, on May 26 after bravely battling dementia. She was born on June 27, 1932 in Shoshoni, Wyoming to parents Martin and Ruby O’Connor. She moved to her beloved childhood home of Bonners Ferry, Idaho at four years old and lived there until the age of nine. Her parents then moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and then onto Errington, B.C. for all her secondary school education. After graduating high school, Sharon moved to Victoria, B.C. where she met Ken Vander Haeghe. They married on October 6, 1951. Sharon worked at the Bank of Montreal in Victoria and eventually began a career working in libraries at schools on Vancouver Island and finally retiring from the Okanagan Regional Library in Vernon, B.C. Sharon loved to learn, read and always wanted to write, so the library work fulfilled her passion for the written word. Sharon loved the Lord and faithfully attended Vernon Alliance Church for over 38 years. She was completely devoted to her family and will be missed by her husband Kenneth, daughters April (Jim) and Dawn (Gary) as well as grandchildren Todd, Tara (Corlan), Erika (Dean), Rob (Emma) and great grandchildren, Derek and Ashley, Zachary, Madeleine and Tayler, Laila and Lucy. There are many extended family members and friends that Sharon consistently stayed connected with until she couldn’t. Please join us for a Celebration of her Life at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on July 11, 2024 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimers Society of Canada
