Snow possible on upper level highways

The mountain passes on area highways could get some spring snow.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for several area highways, including the Okanagan Connector, Coquihalla, and Highway 1’s Rogers Pass.

The agency said a cool air mass could settle in higher elevations of the Interior, bringing precipitation and a dusting of snow to the mountain passes.

Forecasters said the system will hit the region overnight Thursday, May 16, and could stay in the area until Saturday morning.

Over that period, it’s expected that around five centimetres of snow could fall on the mountain roads.

Environment Canada advised travellers to be prepared for changing weather, drive to conditions, allow for extra travel time, and plan their routes ahead of time.
