Vernon’s sustainability grants gets a boost

Apr 8, 2024 | 2:30 PM

Organizations and community groups will be able to access more funding for sustainability programs.

At the regular meeting Monday, April 8, Vernon city council was presented with an opportunity to increase the maximum funding of the sustainability grants.

The proposed increase would see the maximum grant for projects that address climate change and environmental sustainability in the city doubled from the current $1,000 to $2,000 per project.

The increase comes from a recommendation from Vernon’s Climate Action Advisory Committee, with the report to council noting $25,500 had been approved in the 2024 Long Range Planning Department budget for this program.

Staff informed council that previous years had seen between $2,000 and $4,000 allocated to the program, marking a significant increase in the base amount available to applicants and their projects.

Council received the report and voted unanimously
in favour of amending the sustainability grants program to increase the maximum grant amount to $2,000.
