More than three-thousand nominations came in from Canadian communities hoping to be named Kraft Hockeyville 2024, including several hundred from Enderby.

The nomination process for the annual event sponsored by Heinz Kraft went from Jan. 1 to Feb. 18.

The judging process is next, which ends on March 9 when the top four communities will be announced.

Kaylee Wells from Enderby’s organizing group, said the North Okanagan city got 399 nominations, 486 pictures and 428 notes which all have point totals, and are used by the selection committee.

“We all just wait now while they tally up the points from nominations, pictures, notes, and likes. There are a few other communities we have been following and it looks like we are one of the leaders,” Wells told Vernon Matters.

Wells said there were 3,291 nominations in total for communities across Canada.

The winning community gets $250,000 for arena upgrades and gets to host an NHL game.

In addition to the top prize, the three runner-up communities will each receive $25,000.

Enderby would use its prize to make repairs to its arena and curling rink which are shut down for the rest of this season due to a problem with the refrigeration system.
