The Rise seeks liquor licence for new clubhouse

Vernon City Council is endorsing the Rise’s application for a liquor license amendment.

The vote passed unanimously without any discussion.

The golf course overlooking Okanagan Lake is planning to expand its services with a new restaurant and clubhouse, but the latter requires a liquor licence to move forward.

The Rise has submitted an application for a structural change to the service area of a liquor primary license to accomodate a new clubhouse with a 300 person capacity on the lower floor of the facility on Rising View Way.

The clubhouse will include a banquet room, patio and golf simulator room.

The course’s existing license with the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch covers a temporary golf kiosk, and The Rise is looking to amend the service area as it builds the new clubhouse.

Development and building permits were approved earlier, and construction of the new structure is underway. The top floor will be a restaurant and is not included in the liquor primary licence application.

Vernon city council will receive a report on the structural change and the request for the liquor licence, with a staff recommendation to support the application, at its meeting Feb 12.

The report stated the property’s zoning allows the new clubhouse and liquor primary use, and the “subject use is compatible with existing and potential surrounding uses for the area.”

It was also noted the property has adequate parking and traffic and is not expected to be impacted by the proposed change. It also does not present any policing or noise concerns.

Should council not support the application, the city could ‘opt out’ of providing a resolution indicating they do not wish to provide feedback on the license application.

Ultimately, the final decision to approve or deny the liquor licence change will be made by the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch.
