Well-known Silver Star business on the block

An iconic Silver Star Mountain Resort business is up for sale after owner Franks Berkers decided it was time to hang up his apron.

“After 28 great years on Silver Star Mountain it’s time for someone younger to take over the torch and have many more years on the mountain continuing this great and fun business. Don’t worry, I will be continuing Bugaboos as usual on a daily basis,” Berkers stated on social media.

Berkers was trained in Europe by Italian, Swiss, and Belgian chefs and bakers before starting Boter Kaas en Eieren (Noughts and Crosses) in Holland. He moved to Canada and opened Bugaboos Bakery Cafe just before the ski season in 1996.

“The first few years were the most difficult, but keeping consistent is a must. As an international ski and bike resort, we get people from all over the world and it’s really nice to see people coming back for years. With the resort only 20 minutes from Vernon, we get a lot of locals coming to the mountain as well,” Berkers said.

“One of the best locations and best businesses on the mountain, it is a bakery and cafe, open all day long. Fifty person capacity, with outdoor seating area, and it is always packed,” Annette Denk from eXp realty said.

Denk, along with well-know Silver Star specialist Don Kassa of Re/Max Vernon, have the listing which includes the business, a commercial parking space and potentially staff accommodation.

The 1655 square-foot property is listed for $575,000.
