RCMP detachment to be surveyed for upgrades

The current state of the Vernon RCMP detachment will be examined in a study that will determine what improvements are needed.

This past August, Vernon council agreed to undertake a space planning and feasibility study of the building next to city hall which dates back to the 1960’s.

The study would assess the current condition of the detachment and compare that to standards for police headquarters, then provide recommendations for necessary renovations and new construction requirements.

Administration opened requests for proposals in the fall, and have now awarded the contract.

City staff are recommending council authorize spending up to $98,848 for the RCMP Space Planning and Feasibility Study at its meeting Monday, Dec. 11.

That study will be funded through the RCMP building reserve, which at last update had a balance of $2,171,504.
