SilverStar Mountain will open its downhill season Friday (Dec. 8) with limited runs and lifts.

The resort is reporting a 62 centimetre snow base.

In time for opening, SilverStar will also launch the new Bannister Terrain Park at Silver Queen with a variety of features.

“Our teams have been working really hard in preparation for the season and we’re so excited to have the mountain open to all our guests,” Ian Jenkins, director of sales, marketing and events, said.

Jenkins said with more snow, they will look to open more terrain and lifts as conditions allow.

The resort emphasizes these are early season conditions and guests are advised to use extra caution.

More information about opening weekend at SilverStar is available on the mountain’s website here. The mountain’s Nordic and snowshoe networks are also open.

Meantime, SilverStar has also announced its annual Christmas Light Up will be on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The evening will include activities, food and drink. The resort is also bringing back fireworks, fire spinners, light displays, roaming entertainers and a Christmas market.

Activities will kick off from 3:00 p.m. with the opening of Christmas Market with fireworks at 7:30 p.m.

A detailed event schedule can be found here.

The village at SilverStar is now fully open with dining and shopping.
