Vernon Vipers goalie commits to Division 1 U.S. school

The Vernon Vipers have announced that goaltender Ethan David has committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology for next season.

David, a Vancouver product, 12 wins, 6 losses and two shutouts this season, his third with the BC Hockey League team.

“Ethan came in as a first year goalie and has matured as a person and goaltender over the last three years to where he is an elite starting goaltender in the BCHL,” Vipers head coach and GM Jason McKee said. “Ethan will be ready for the challenges of college hockey next season and we look forward to watching his continued development at that level and beyond.”

David, who will turn 20 on Dec. 17, has suited up for 76 games for the Vipers, both regular season and playoffs.

The 6-foot-4, 190 pound netminder said he’s excited to be continuing his hockey career at RIT.

“Their program offers everything I’m looking forward to in a university, from elite hockey to highly praised academics. I’d like to thank my family, friends, coaches and mentors for where I am today. Especially the coaching staff at RIT for allowing me to contribute to their future success and for that I am grateful,” David said.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers is an NCAA Division 1 program that plays in the AHA Conference. They play out of the Gene Polisseni Center in Henrietta, New York.They have made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2015 and 2016 and earned a spot in the Frozen Four in the 2010 season.
