Teddy Bears get tossed as Vipers chop down Spruce Kings

It was raining teddy bears early on as the Vernon Vipers defeated the Prince George Spruce Kings 6-2 in BC Hockey League action on Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.

Anthony Cliche scored at 4:56 of the first period for the Vipers, resulting in the fans throwing a mass of stuffies on the ice on Teddy Bear Toss Night.

The game was tied at 1 after one and then the Vipers broke it open with three goals in the second and another one early in the third, going 3 for 6 on the power play.

Brossard, QC product Georgios Stavrianeas was named the first star with four assists for the Vipers before a crowd of 2,492.

Isaac Tremblay added two goals and one assist and home-town product Connor Elliott added a goal and one helper as the Snakes improved to 16-6-1-0 and in second place in the Interior Conference.

Colin Reay made 28 saves to improve his record to 4-0.

Prince George fell to 7-13-3-0, last in the Interior.

The Vipers next play Friday when they visit the Trail Smoke Eaters.

In the KIJHL, the North Okanagan Knights upset the league-leading Sicamous Eagles 5-4 Saturday in Sicamous to improve to 6-14-0-3.

Gage Parrell had two goals for the Knights while Devin Jameson added four assists.
