Snowfall Warning

Up to 20 centimetres of snow expected for Coquihalla Highway

Dec 1, 2023 | 12:50 PM

A large blanket of snow is expected to cover the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt to kick off December.

In a snowfall warning, Environment Canada said around 15 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected to fall on the stretch of Highway 5 from late Friday night (Dec. 1) to Saturday morning.

It’s due to another frontal system that will move onshore Friday night and across B.C.’s Interior on Saturday.

The weather agency said flurries are expected to begin Friday night, become heavy overnight and ease back to flurries by midday Saturday.

Drivers are warned that rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult, and highways and roads may be challenging to navigate.

Environment Canada also warns that weather in the mountains can chance suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Travellers are asked to adjust their driving with changing road conditions.
