Bike lane proposed for Husband Road in Coldstream

A proposal to widen Husband Road from the Mariposa/Sunflower Place intersection to 12707 Husband Road goes before Coldstream council Monday.

A staff report seeks permission to proceed with design work and allocate $330,000 from the Community Works Fund to pay for the construction.

The estimated price includes:

  • Additional scope added to the design contract with Urban Systems
  • Includes a 10 per cent contingency against cost inflation
  • Relocation of the curb and gutter (original paving plan did not include new curb and gutter)
  • New catch basins (old ones not up to new design specifications) to align with new curb and gutter
  • Structural fill and base gravels under the new bike lane.  Construction of a small retaining wall west of Russet Drive

“The reasons for this section being more expensive to construct than the stretch of similar length along Coldstream Creek Road is that the Coldstream Creek Road project already included the costs for new curb and gutter and the supply and install of catch basins as part of the original project. There was also no need for a retaining wall,” a staff report to council stated.
