Coldstream council has awarded the contract to construct its new public works building on Aberdeen Road, and to renovate the district’s former fire hall.

PCL Construction, based in Edmonton, was awarded the contract for $9.3 million dollars with no timeline provided by the district on when the work could start.

The total cost is $10.9 million with the district using funding approved in a referendum last year, plus reserves, to pay for the project.

A referendum to borrow up to $8.5 million dollars for the new building and renovations passed by a margin of 57.7 per cent in October 2022.

The key components of the project are:

• Construction of a new public works building which will consolidate all current operational and storage uses of the Quonset, old mechanics shop, storage shed, lunchroom, parks operations/storage and utilities operations/storage

• Renovation of the current Utilities operations/storage and parks operations/storage facility (old firehall) to accommodate offices, reception area, meeting room and storage

• Demolition of current Quonset, road equipment storage (former mechanic shop) and storage shed. The current lunchroom will be salvaged.

• Relocation of fuel tanks
