Finalizing Building Siting

Geotechnical drilling underway at Active Living Centre site

More preparation work is underway at the site of the future Active Living Centre in Vernon.

The City of Vernon said a specialized contractor is conducting geotechnical drilling at the Kin Race Track lands on 43rd Avenue Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 15 and 16.

Unlike the previous geotechnical work to survey the property for planning purposes, this drilling will provide more detailed information to help guide the final building siting.

The Kin Race Track lands remain open to the public, though the city advises residents and visitors prioritize safety by allowing the contractor plenty of space to work. People are also asked to not move any marking materials.

Electors in Vernon voted 60.9 per cent in favour of borrowing up to $121 million to develop the Active Living Centre in a referendum on Oct. 15, 2022.

The facility will include an aquatic centre, a double gymnasium with multiple sport courts, an 80-station fitness centre, a 150-metre synthetic walking/running track and multi-purpose activity and program spaces.
